Chandigarh: To address the problems faced by students seeking admission in government schools, the Punjab education department has issued new guidelines, directing school heads not to refuse admission to any student for want of documents.

A spokesperson of the school education department said the department issued new guidelines as many students were facing difficulties due to lack of documents.

The school heads have been instructed to enroll students of Class I to VIII based on age according to the RTE Act 2009 while students without Aadhaar card have also been asked to register and later produce their Aadhaar card. Apart from this, school heads are directed not to ask for the registration number issued by Punjab School Education Board from students taking admission in Class IX to XII.

Similarly, the restriction of transfer certificate for admission in government schools has been done away with and school heads have been asked to admit students at their own level. The school principals have been directed to seek written consent from the parents of the students who do not have the transfer certificate.

Instructions have also been issued not to compel the students to produce a birth certificate to take admission in the government schools. The school heads have been directed to admit these students on a provisional basis.
